Book Description
This study is an investigation into the religious significance of communal living as focused upon the experiential character of life int he Shaker communistic community and the conscious theological reflections on its meaning by the participants. Shaker communal life is purposefully framed as a realization of the christological nature of religious community. The body of people is the actualization of the Second Coming of Christ: the community itself is the Social Incarnation of Christ in his Second Appearing. The communal experience, therefore, is the fulfilled eschatological experience of Christ's coming and the stablishment of his Kingdom.
